On an Evans FET 500-----
I use the effects return jack in back as the insert point for an external preamp (Pod). But I sometimes use the internal preamp (front panel jack) and reverb. The rear jack has priority and breaks the front jack connection. I'd like to use an A/B box and keep both jacks connected. Is there any reason I shouldn't alter the rear jack so that it doesn't break the front jack connection? Is there some protection I'd be bypassing by doing this? In other words, both jacks would be live but I'd only be using one or the other, A/B. |

Jon,
I`d put the A/B box in the loop;the Evans pre out to one input, the POD to the other input and the output to the effects return.
Should work and won`t do any damage.
Hope this helps...

Olli---thanks. I appreciate the response. I'm going around and around with your suggestion and it's tying my brain up in knots. I'm going to think some more about it but I think it misses my objective--to bypass the front panel tone controls when using the Pod. My head hurts. |

Hi Jon,
Yes, I can see now that I didn`t say it too clearly. What I meant was : use the A and B of the A/B box as inputs and the common (sometimes marked on the box as input) as the output. A/B boxes work both ways, 2 ins/1 out or 1 in/2 outs. Connect the preamp out or send of the Evans to A of the A/B box and the POD to the B.Connect the output of the box to the return jack of the Evans:Now you can choose which preamp feeds the power amp of the Evans. The POD goes straight to the power amp and in the other position of the A/B box the loop "closes" and the Evans preamp feeds the power amp like it would if there wasn`t anything connected to the send and return jacks. I hope this helps,
Olli |
