I get an error message when I try to access their web site: http://www.cumquatrecords.com
but they apparently have two CD reissues of Dick Mcintire & his Haemony Hawiians ... the classic Mcintire stuff! Dick's tone and feel were legendary but there's almost nothing out there on CD today. I'll write to Cumquat & let you know what I find out.

I can get to their site but there's no ordering info, nice sample cuts though.
Anyone know of a US distributor?

U.S. distributor ? - no say. I don't know if they've changed their policy...but as recently as two months ago they wanted totals remitted in Australian currency. Ouch. |

Those Dick McIntire cuts are really clean. I have them all on tape, but these are far superior. How does one order, and how much kala ? |

Thanks for following up, Rick. I still can't get to the web site for some reason. Could someone please cut & paste the contents/song list of the two CD's into an e-mail? Thanks.

Thanks, Rick. This is the classic stuff! Bob Stone & Cord International ran into red tape and/or rights issues last year when they tried to get a McIntire reissue going last year. Better grab this stuff while it's on the market, guys. I sure will. |

In response to Andy Volk:
What type of red tape and hassels did Cord and Bob Stone run into when trying to reissue this material? Did the McIntire estate want to hold out for millions of dollars? Were the owners of the rights worried about getting shafted by big corporate record companies? Were they worried that Madonna or Britney Spears would steal the material for pennies? I doubt any of these scenerios would happen. Usually reissues of these types are labors of love with little hope of making millions by the independent record labels.
One of my fears is that a large amount of incredible music (all types) from pre 1950 will be lost to current and future generations. The few remaining copies will exist in collectors basements on eroding magnetic tape, brittle 78's and warped LP's.
All will eventually end up in the trash when the owners move or pass away.
I don't have an answer to this issue, I'm just ranting and raving after my second cup of coffee.

You nearly double your money when you go from US to Australian.. although there's a fee for this if course, sigh!
It nearly breaks the bank to do a postal order and purchase in the USA, at least for me anyway.

Sorry ... don't remember the specific details and they're not in the threads I searched. Perhaps Bob can shed some light. |

Hi,
I've been locked away working on the Sacred Steel book, so not checking the Forum regularly for a while.
Looks like these might be a couple of nice CDs. To make a very long story short, red tape has not prevented production the Cord CD on Dick McIntire. The project is apparently very low on Cord's list of priorities.
I'll keep the Forum posted if anything develops with Cord Meanwhile, I'm ordering the Austrailian CDs.
Best,
Bob |

I'd like to hear how your dealings go, I have heard of the label, but I don't really know anything about it. |
