Connection arrangement for the Evans are grounded input;insulated output.
OK...when I got the amp(used) and I was trying to fix a rev hum a few years ago I soldered in a new heftier shielded cable for the output and just for good measure I (knowing less about tanks at the time) soldered in a smaller shielded cable for the input as well. I mean...a shielded cable is grounded as well aint it? Any problem there?

Steven, I could not determine if you corrected the problem or not. I can tell you that a very common cause of hum in an Evans is poor contact where the pre-amp circuit board plugs in. Those contacts need to be cleaned and plugged back in tight.

Jerry, What I meant ask was even though a tanks connection arrangement might be for a grounded input/shielded output...it's not going to harm anything to use a shielded cable to connect the input as well...correct?(such as effecting the voltage to the tank or something)
I've pretty much cleaned all connections. I scrubbed most of the oxidation from all circuit boards with nonmetalic green pads as suggested by Ed Buffington, which cleaned up a fair amount of noise and hum in general. Amps pretty quiet now except for the reverb. So the main problem and mission to solve remains.remains

Went back in and this time paid more attention to the terminal strip that unplugs from the preamp circuit board. Sprayed some non residue electronic cleaner inside the female strip terminals and pushed the circuit board in and out a number of times. Gave it a little time to evaporate before reassembling. Now, I do believe the reverb is somewhat better and the hum's been reduced.
