Hi everybody,
I just submitted a reply to the pro tools thread, where I advertized my Focusrite Tone Factory preamp. I am very curious to find out if any of you forumites has tried the focusrite and what you think of it.
I had tried the Line 6 pod and the J Station, but was not satisfied with the clean sounds required for steel.
For a session where I had to go direct into a Roland VS something, I decided to try the Focusrite Tone Factory (a fairly priced preamp with input filters, equalisation, compression, overdrive etc.). It has a line input as well as a mic input with phantom power.
I am very satisfied with the "clean" sound. The overdrive button allows you to add just that bit of speaker simulation or bite required (I put it at about 25%).
There is no reverb or delay in the box but I just used my stomp boxes for that. Worked fine.
This is my best clean "no speaker" sound so far.
Let me know what you think.
Tom

I use a focusrite producer pack (ISA 430) through apogee A/D into protools and it sounds beautiful. I tried miking my Nash 400 at first but consistantly got a better sound direct. |

Marc, I bet the producer pack sounds nice too. It's also on my short list. But you would have to stress the affordable price of the Focusrite platinum series compared to the producer pack.
The nice thing with the tone factory is that you don't get all the "mic" stuff such as de-essers etc.
Does the producer pack also have the overdrive button?
