Any of you guys do electronics repair?

I have a SONY Professional, which is a stereo-recording walkman type tape recorder. It used to work very well for live recordings but has developed two problems, one old, one new:
Old: Several years ago, it stopped working off batteries (takes 4 AAs) and would only work with an AC adapter. That was okay, no big deal, just inconvenient at times.
New: Now even with the AC adapter, it runs really fast speed. Dunno why. The speed control is set at "off" (maybe the internal setting got disconnected from the switch on the outside?)
Anyway, I tried getting it fixed around here and can't find anyone I can trust with it, but I'd sure like to get it working again.
Does any of you guys moonlight by fixing up these kinds of things? (Or, mebbe not moonlight: mebbe it's your "day job"?) If so, and you'd be willing to take a stab at this (for a fee, of course), please let me know.
Muchas gracias,
Jaime
