| I played one of these yesterday and really liked its tone. This was the tweed covered model with the 15" speaker. Not being a great solid-state fan, this amp appealed to me though my best amp experiences have all been with Fenders. Does anyone use one of these amps and if so, what do you think of it? Reliable; not enough power, etc.? |

Had one. GREAT guitar tone(only Peavey I've ever owned). Steel tone was too whiney, the mid-range was overpowering once you turned it up. Having tremelo was a plus, though the reverb was el-tone-o del cheap-o.
On the other hand, I have a friend who sometimes plays steel through a Classic 50, sort of the Delta Blues's big brother with more power and 2x12, and it sounds excellent. |

Great info! Just for your information, the late Curly Chalker chose two Peavey Classic 50/212 amps for his setup during his latter years. There's something to be said about these amps here.

funny you should mention the Classic 50/2-12. I plugged my steel into my Classic last night for the first time (I have a Session 400 and a HotRod Deluxe that I usually use for steel) and it sounded great. My sho-bud just sparkled. I may have to start dragging the Classic to gigs!

I prefer the Classic 30 over the Delta Blues. The Delta would probably sound better with a BW speaker, but I thought it was a little muddy and midrangy compared to the Classic 30.
I wouldn't bring a classic 30 to a loud country gig, but it screams for a club gig with a R&B band. It has been very reliable for me. I did get an overall better sound by replacing the chinese preamp tubes with lower gain versions by Groove Tubes.
