Tone Experience

Last night I played my old ZB through my regular amp...a Webb 614-E. I had just gotten the guitar back from being worked on, and had forgotten how good it sounded. BUT THEN...our guitar player had his extra Mesa/Boogie head and 112 EV cab sitting there on stage and he said "hey, try running this with your Webb and see what you get". So I ran out of my second output on the pedal to the Boogie with an RV-3 for reverb, and MY GOD IT SOUNDED WONDERFUL! Clean, clear power and no distortion. I even had a regular patron (non--musician) of the theater where I play tell me that my "new" guitar (little did he know it was late 1960's) sounded great! Our fiddle player is also a great steel player and when I came on stage to start the show, he was sitting at my rig and had the rest of the band gathered around him and was holding court...extolling the virtues of my ZB steel, Tom Brumley, and tube amps in general! It sure is fun to play when your tone is right! We kicked off with "Deep Water" fiddle, steel and guitar 3-part harmonies. I thought I had died and gone to heaven! Tone is like a marriage, when its good, there's nuthin' like it on earth, but when it's bad, well.....

I've been doing that for many years. I stack a Mesa/Boogie on top of a Webb. The Boogie gives me those beautiful tube highs (and overdrive when I need it), and the Webb provides the bass power.

I'm moving this topic to Electronics.

You write as if adding 300 Lbs. to your daily rig is a good thing! Image

Luckily I don't have to tote the rig around. It stays set up all the time.
