That very guitar was reviewed in Guitar Player Magazine recently (either the current issue or last issue, can't remember which) and got a great review. It looks like a good lap steel to play blues and rock with. I've never played one so I can't comment from experience.
One thing good about buying from Musician's Friend is that they have (or did, better check first) a 45-day no-questions-asked full refund return policy. All you pay for is the shipping back to them. I've utilized this policy and it was very easy.

Hi Scott,
I saw this guitar at a GuitarCenter (I think they are with MF now)last year, and I don't think I'd classify it as a beginner's guitar. It's really nicely made. Not cheap looking at all. Very professional. I didn't play it or hear it, though. However, that said, for the money you could get either something collectible/vintage on eBay cheaper (unless you want a Fender), or if you want something new, Melobars are highly thought of here on the forum -- can't find a better endorsement than from players here who actual play these things.
[This message was edited by Al Terhune on 13 June 2001 at 04:17 PM.]

Never mind the guitar, that's a great looking case for a hundred bucks. One of the most frequent questions in this topic area is where to get lap steel cases. Anyone in the market for one would do well to see if these Chandler cases are available separately.

well I'm really not looking for something cheap or collectible (I'll probably end up breaking it or something knowing me hahaha) but if it's not beginner then all the better. It sounds like a really good guitar and a price range that I am interested in. So now I just need to know what else I would need to get. I would have a guitar and I have an amp. I'm sure I need some sort of a slide (I really need help in that department) and anything else?

You should take a look at Brad Bechtel's web page:

As Ian mentioned, that case looks great. If you go with the Chandler and you got the extra $$, get the case too!
