And where should I set it?
I want the cleanest possible tone.

Hi Lowell...
I have used the session 400 since they came out in 1974. I've tried others but still prefer the session 400. I play through two most of the time.
The sensitivity is similar to the master volume on other amps. The difference is it isn't functional as an overdrive setting. If I recall, the sensitivity is why the "session" was developed. To get a super quiet amp in the studio (session) a player would turn the sensitivity knob counterclockwise. For the gig you can turn it clockwise for more power. As a general setting many players will set the volume and sensitivity the same...both at 3 or both at 4 etc. I usually run the sensitivity a little hotter.
Hope this helps
Dennis

The SENSITIVITY control on the Session 400 was labeled that way because it functions similar to the input "sensitivity" control on a power amp such as a DPC 1000. Just like a component system(Profex II, DPC1000, Nashville 112E), the output of the Profex II has to produce enough voltage to drive the input of the DPC 1000 in order to drive it to full output power. This is what is referred to as the input "sensitivity".

By decreasing this SENSITIVITY control and increasing the VOLUME control on the older Session 400, you can create an overdrive characteristic. This also applies to the newer Session 400 Limited, Nashville 400 and Nashville 1000 amps.

Mike, I thought you put it on to increase how sensitive you are for the babes that like sensitive men and decrease for those who like the rougher kind of guy. Image

Richard, I usually have a comeback for a comment like this, but I can't think of a good one. A good sense of humor always brightens my day. Thanks.
