I use a Peavey Vegas400. I play both Pedal Steel and Strat through its two channels. Via a profex 11. I was happy with the tone untill I played My steel through an old Laney head with a marshall 4x12 cab. It sang through it. Can anyone advise me of aMessa Combo that can accomidate both guitars easily
and is available for sale in England.Thanks.

I recently bought a Mesa Boogie studio Preamp. A 2unit all valve preamp. I go through it and into the powersection on my Nashville 400. The sound is so much better than going through the preampsection on the Peavey. The Mesa is unbelieveable clean!!! Great!!
There are often Studio preamps for sale at Ebay ( www.ebay.com ) and often quite cheap too. I bought mine through Ebay from a guy in the US, and I live in Norway! Had to get a small power transformer though.... Mesa is higly recommended!

A Laney head and Marshall cabinet? Never thought of that combination for steel, but I know Tony Iommi would be proud of you.

I once tried my Strat throught that type of setup and it was quite interesting, but I always thought Celestion speakers were designed to break up early for good rock distortion.

But back to your question, the Mesa Nomad may work well, too for your needs.

I have never found the perfect amp for both applications, but I am just another opinion. I have a Mesa Mark I reissue. It has plenty of power in the 100 watt clean channel (No. 2) for a good clean steel. This amp does not have foot switchable channel like the Mark III, maybe a better choice for dual purpose. The Mark I works for me as I play clean on most stuff, and if I need a dirty edge, I use a pedal. The No. I channel has the preamp though, and all the sustain and scream you could ask for (ala Carlos).
