I'm currently using a pair of Peavey 112E speakers, but I'd like to try a smaller speaker for my practice rig. Can anybody recommend a 10 or even an 8-inch speaker for steel guitar?

The "Musician's Friend" catalog lists 4 different speakers...3 Fenders, and 1 Celestion vintage.
Fender 10" standard......75 Watts.....$36
Fender 10" ceramic ......45 Watts.....$45
Fender 10" alnico blue...45 Watts.....$54
Celestion 10" vintage....60 Watts.....$70
Try Bill's Music, in Catonsville first, though. Any of these sould be fine for a practice amp.

Hey Van,
You're up near Padonia, right? I do like the folks at Bill's in Catonsville, but price check at the MARS or the Guitar Center up on Joppa Rd. first. Bill's usually prices out higher, but they'll match the other guys.
Cheers

Chuck's is great. They'll meet or beat any legitimate price. A bit more of a trek though if you're coming from north of Baltimore.
Van, do you think you'd be satisfied with the low end from an 8"?
Cheers

I like Celestion 10" speakers pretty well, but I really think you need at least a couple of them in a good cabinet to get any decent bass response.
I've got to dissent on the JBL 110 recommendation, though. I played through an old fender amp with a couple of these and I thought my head was going to come off (they are really, really bright).
