I tried watching twice: each time for about 20 seconds before I couldn't take any more...

Gaylon,
You know we appreciate the small amount of the good stuff we get, just not enough of it and too much CRAP. Image Image Image

I'm not usually one to respond to this kind of topic, but... I just joined my wife, who was watching the awards, just in time to catch Miranda Lambert's performance. A bad rock and roll song, a bass player with a mohawk, a smashed guitar, and a mic stand thrown on the floor! Wow! Of all the great, talented bands and musicians in Nashville and elsewhere, this is what they select to put on national TV, to represent the genre to the nation. How can these people expect anyone to take country music seriously?

I breezed thru my living room about the time
a fellow with yellow spiked hair was wailing into a mike and standing in the middle of explosions while somebody namedMiranda Lambert was screaming "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" while slamming a guitar(or so it appeared). My teenage daughter was watching and told me who the so called rtist was. That was perhaps the most disgusting thing I have ever seen that supposedly associated with the words Country Music. There is no shame when it comes to hooking crackheads, punks, and anyone on the search for rebellious, disrespectful, and ludicrous noise still referred to as music.
[This message was edited by Eddie D.Bollinger on 06 November 2006 at 07:25 PM.]

Wow. Sonny James inducted into the HOF followed by this Jason Aldean dude, never heard of him, doing a BAD imitation of early 80's power pop. I think this was in the Book of Revelations, wasn't it. How do they put this thing together like this?

Gaylon, yup, I sure did miss your number. Both times I peeked in there was no steel in the band and nothing coming through the speakers that I wanted to hang around for. Too bad.

I've been watching for a while now and got to hear Harold Bradley thank the "A-team" during his acceptence speech for the CMA Hall Of Fame saying names like Pete Drake, Lloyd Green and Buddy Emmons. I've been enjoying this show. I noticed the decidedly heavy edge on the new country acts.

There was steel in a number of bands. Strait, of course, Dierks, and someone else who got his steeler a over-the-shoulder shot as he played his cue. Oh, and here we have Sarah Evan's steeler(is that Gary Morse?) get a camera shot, again, right on cue.

I'm an Welshman in America, so I probably have't been exposed to as much modern country or whatever it's called as many here. So I'm watching the CMA awards in a state of mild amusement. What's with all the dudes with long straightened hair with highlights in?

Randle Currie's steel was louder than Brad's voice in the first part of his song... Image

Thanks guys for making me feel better for refusing to watch the program with my wife in lieu of the "American Road Show" anniversary show! My wife said I couldn't be a real country musician because I had no interest in the show. I told her that was like saying someone must be a bad chef because he/she doesn't like to eat at Waffle House.

After watching the last awards shows, I decided to schedule a band practice tonight. We had a great practice, good evening. I did not get disappointed or mad watching the awards as I have in past years. Think I'll mark it on the calendar to do it again next year...

Josh Turner is such a good singer and I was really disappointed to see that his associates/producers/managers now have him dressing like a Bum! I'm sure it's not his idea and he probably has little choice but to cooperate with the higher-powers! Too bad! I guess the next move is undershorts on top of trousers! Someone has things slightly backwards, by my understanding of how to get dressed! Socks on top of shoes? Get real!!

Well, I watched the whole thing--a few low moments, but overall not too offended. Didn't realize Bergen White was the MD, cool. And while I think Randy Scruggs is a fine musician, still can't believe Paul has not gotten it yet...

I did not watch much of the Country My A** Show except for The Hall Of Fame inductees. My wife said all the female singers dressed like call girls and the guys all dressed like homeless people. George Strait, Harold Bradley, and Sonny James were the only class acts on the show. Jody.

Based on what I've read here, I just keep wondering how embarrassed George, Harold, and Sonny might have been.

No, I didn't watch the program; the promos showed me in advance what I could expect.

Who is Miranda Lambert (a rhetorical question, so before you answer, ask yourself, will he care)?
[This message was edited by James Cann on 06 November 2006 at 09:18 PM.]

There needs to be a new classification for this music. The CMA's NCS. (New Country $#!+)
