Courtney Love is back in the studio, putting the final touches on a new album she made with songwriter Linda Perry.
Quote: |
"I think we made a beautiful, vibey, magical record," Perry says. "Courtney Love's name should be right next to Bob Dylan when they say 'best lyricist of all time.'" |
Mmmm... which "they"? |

I thought the guy who wrote "They're coming to take me away" was the best lyricist. |

Well, Terry, if you're gonna be serious...
Ray Stevens could be a contender, but I feel certain he'd be beat out by both Stephen Sondheim and Cole Porter. |

Here's a vote for Shel Silvertein, whom people like Ray Stevens, Bobby Bare, and others would appreciate. [This message was edited by James Cann on 31 October 2006 at 09:03 AM.] |

Hey, wadda'bout Stomin' Tom......"Well you know that it may seem goofy, but the Man on the Moon is a Newfee"....I hear he's got a PhD, too.
Also, I think the real gems are the naturals like Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams. John Lee Hooker |

Do'nt forget Chuck Berry

Lookin' like the model on the cover of a magazine."
And many more.
Best regards

I love Cole Porter and Ira Gershwin and all those other greats from the past, but while their songs are often clever and romantic, and witty, the songs and lyrics harp back to a more innocent age and time. That's why Bob Dylan gets my vote as the greatest lyricist of the world "as we know it today". I still think Courtney deserves a mention for "creativity"? With a band name like "HOLE", you gotta admire all of the very deep thought that went into creating the name... |
