Peavey guitar quality? BXP5 Bass?

Does anybody have experience with the quality of the student-grade Peavey instuments? I am suffering from urges to get boompy and thrash around on a bass again... I have had good experiences with Ibanez cheapies, but the Peaveys are such nice fellows.

Hi David:
Forgive my ignorance, but if you're looking for a cheapie bass, why not get a Fender Squire P bass?

I have a truckload of Peavey guitars and basses. Their quality versus price is the best of any guitar I've ever owned. Most of mine are the older, American made models, but I do have 5 of the newer JF-1 semi-hollow models, and 3 of the vaious EXP models that are made overseas. The newer models look, sound, and play great.

Darvin, You are so right. The quality of the Peavey insruments is second to none. I am playing a JF-1 exp Peavey guitar and it is a better guitar than some I have that cost five times that much. What is the old saying?, more bang for the buck, Peavey has it. My best to all, Bobby

First, I must say that I'm associated with a competeing guitar company (Ravenwest) so you all might want to bear that in mind when you read what I have to say.
Peavey does indeed make excellent guitars. Furthermore, they have earned the support of the steel guitar community by making amps for us, and by catering the sound at the convention for so many years.
Be that as it may, they are but one of many companies making great guitars at very reasonable prices. The new Korean imports, made by such companies as the one I'm associated with, Ravenwest, as well as Agile, Aslin Dane, and Dillion to name a few, are all incredable values, as are Peaveys.
This is truly a golden age of guitar building. We are seeing many wonderful guitars coming from Asia, and the ones I'm seeing from Ravenwest keep getting better and better.
I'm not knocking Peavey. Their guitars really are excellent. But I suggest that anybody looking for a guitar check out ALL the new companies. There are so many fine guitars out there now you are sure to find one that you love.

Warning: I have a Telecaster and I'm not afraid to use it.

I have had a few Ibanezes, both bass and guitar.
I like them.
I have played and recorded with Peavey basses, and they are not bad.
I think I was playing a Peavey P-bass copy tuesday night
in a jam with some guys from the Platters.
It played fine. (so did they)
I never owned one, but that would just
be redundant with my Fodera....
If Bobby is playing one regularly, then that's
as good an endorsement as you can get.

I recently checked out a BXP bass and was pleasantly surprised at the playability and finish. Was not particularly impressed with the electronics; but that may be more a taste issue.
