I watched part of a concert on VH1 Classic yesterday by a group name Dream Theater. Wow! I realize this music is not for everybody, but what musicians!! The name of the concert is "Score" ~ or something to that effect. I hate that I only caught the tail-end of the show, because what I saw, I really enjoyed.

Interestingly, I saw a steel guitar setup in front of the keyboard player and was wondering if anyone new anything about him. He didn't play it on the part of the show that I watched.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone could shed any light on this group for me. I could definitely see influences of Yes, Rush, etc.

Here's a link to the show: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000G7PMD2/sr=1-1/qid=1156797996/ref=sr_1_1/002-4840439-8080811?ie=UTF8&s=music

Respectfully,
Dave Burr

That's the first I've heard about them using a steel. I saw them with ELP and Deep Purple about 7 years ago, I think. They are incredible players. Derek Serinian was playing keys then and he's an excellent player, but I don't think he's in the band now.

The bass player often plays a Chapman Stick. Amazing guy.

I'm pretty sure they orginated from Berklee College in Boston. I think drummer Mike Portnoy teaches there, or taught there. He's considered one of the top prog drummers.

They have a ton of albums out there.

They are classified progressive rock.
