Wayne Kemp had a song entitled "Alcohol of Fame" as well. The only one with "wild" in their name that I can think of right off is "Wild" Bill Emerson, who wrote many songs for George Jones and many others and was quite a good vocalist himself.

I recorded it around 82 with sir Smiley on the steel and he did a major turn-around modulation in the song. Plus I was elected to the AOF somewhere around then.

Doyle, I saw on his website where Wayne had some serious strokes, but was doing better. It also said he has a new album coming out. I've always really enjoyed his music, and I'm glad to run into someone else who is familiar with his work.

Smiley,I was thinking that when they mentioned it was a Wayne Kemp song...I knew Wayne in L.A. in the old Cals Corral days around 61-62. I was looking up the writer of Tom Campbells version and mine and it was a woman who I believe still lives in Nashburg. "so tonight I'll dress and go downtown,to a barroom on skid row"

I worked with Wayne Kemp around 79-80 in Louisville. I think he did that tune then. He's written some really great tunes. Love Bug, One piece at a Time for Johnny Cash and lots more.

I hadn't heard it before the Wood Bros version. They sound a little like Arron Tippen to me. Love it!

Wayne Kemp, Stonewall Jackson, and the Woods Brothers, are all different songs. I just listened to each one to make sure.

Not sure which version Joe did, because I've not had the good fortune to hear it.

The "AOF" that Joe Casey mentioned, was written by a friend of mine named Molly Thomas. It was recorded by Stonewall Jackson,Joe Casey,& my neighbor,Tom Campbell. As Joe mentioned,I played steel on his version of the song. I haven't heard any of the other versions.

I searched through my archive and here's the inventory:

ALCOHOL OF FAME

Jerry Lee Lewis song written by Buzz Rabin

Stonewall Jackson song written by Molly Thomas

Woods Bros song written by Hank Williams & Fagan (or Fagen)

The Wayne Kemp song has different title:

ALCOHALL OF FAME written by Danny Walls & Barry Warren (Doorknob DKDM-001) 1983

Min. four different songs, surely.

There are a few other songs titled Alcohol Of Fame but mostly from hard rock field of music.

Smiley, wasn't Molly Thomas involved with a booking agency? It almost seems like the first time we worked with Wayne Kemp, we booked him thru her. Doyle

Myron,

Take a close look at Smiley's forum signature and you should be able to pick him out of any crowd. If that doesn't help, he's usually the only one (adult) wearing his underwear outside of his pants.
