Anyone play any Bob Marley tunes on pedal steel?
Seems like that could work well on lots of them. |

Whoa-it's been 25 years?
I consider it one of the top three concerts I have been to in my life - and I have been a pretty regular concert goer over the years.
Had seats in the 1st row balcony at Oakland's beautiful Paramount Theater for Bob Marley & The Wailers, the one and only time I saw them. Don't remember the year.
Just incredible.
Were he still with us I believe he would be 61.

Can't believe it's been that long. I never got to see him in concert, but I saw his wife, Rita, once, about 1983 or so. She had a pure, clear voice and I think most of his band backed her, and it sounded great.
25 years later, Marley's influence can be heard now in all types of music. ("One Love," an anthem about his faith and his homeland, is now shamelessly used as a promotion to travel to Jamaica for vacation or holiday.) He was an outstanding musician, entertainer, and writer, and regardless of what one may think about his style of music, his influence will be felt for generations to come. |

We opened for The Wailers last October here.
Familyman Aston was the only original guy left,
But I knew the drummer from France, Shasha.
Steve my builder for the new studio, knew Bob, and
most of the other ones, since he lived in Jamaica off and on.
If Rita and her lawyer drove across Thailand, they could collect millions in royalties
from Bob's image and music used in most bars here.
Bob is a world class icon,
and since his message was good, that is a great thing.

I play some Bob Marley songs on Lap Steel with a couple of the units that I play with...one band does "Get Up, Stand Up", and another does "People Get Ready" which we blend into "One Love". With my 2CAN duo, we do many songs in reggae style("Doctor My Eyes" & "Whipping Post")& I have found the lap steel to be a great fit with that style of music. I loved Bob Marley the first time I heard him...truely one of the greats! |
