While in Germany I had the pleasure of playing with the brother of Jethro Burns. He was an Army Seargent we called "Pappy Burns."
Pappy Burns did the double slap on the upright bass fiddle for the recording of Steel Guitar Ragg...Jerry Byrd no less. The double slap is not that easy from what I've seen. There has only been three steel players that play the Steel Guitar Ragg that I enjoy. (1) Bob Wills original version (2) Spade Cooley version (3) Jerry Byrd version.
I will leave it at that.

In contrast to Bill Monroe near the end of his career, if you scroll down to the Flatt and Scruggs clips you can see Ricky Scaggs pickin' mando at the age of 7!
