In the movie "High Lonesome" about Appalachian traditional music, there is a scene in a diner where a song comes on the juke box as an example of "modern" music eroding their way of life and the traditional mountain music being lost...

I thought it sounded like Buck Owens with Ralph Mooney but, it turned-out to be Merle Haggard (with Ralph Mooney) doing "The Longer You Wait" from his second album.
There is not much for liner-notes in the CD but there is a picture of Merle Haggard with "Bonnie Owens."

So, Merle Haggard took Buck Owen's sound, his pedal steel player, and his wife ?

I was going to ask about this but, found her story told first-hand here!

They have some audio and video samples including a short video segment of Buck Owens playing with Tom Brumley visible in the background, which is nice.

Sounds just like one of them ol' country songs, don't it?

Not so rare though, really. Look up the history of the Eric Clapton song "Layla".

Wow, didn't know this.... Buck Owens real name is Alvis Edgar Owens Jr. No wonder he goes by Buck.

Hey John, that's an excellent website about the Bakersfield sound, thanks for posting the link.

I met Bonnie a few years ago and I'll tell you I have never met a sweeter lady before that or since then. I've heard she suffers from alzheimers now. I wish I could find a woman like that someday. I be a lot happier and maybe a big star too.

bonnie had been long divorced from buck and was going with steel player fuzzy owen when merle took her off of fuzzy's hands. he stayed on as merle's manager anyway. the song on the swingin' doors album "if i could just be him" chronicles this.

I think Ralph Mooney wrote "The Longer you Wait".
