I'm just getting back to playing lap steel after some time. I saw a 1940's? National Double 8 in my local shop going for $250. Does anybody know about the quality of these? It's mustard yellow, got the colored markers on the fretboard and has covers for the tuning pegs
Thanks -Sean

That sounds like a good price for a very good guitar. The most common complaint about these guitars is the crumbling tuner buttons. Whatever plastic they used during that time, it hasn't held up well. Fortunately you can buy replacement tuner buttons from Stewart-MacDonald or other supply outfits.
I'd pick it up if I were you. Even if you don't keep it, you could resell it on eBay or here for much more.
