I got one of those emails wanting me to teach a 7 year old guitar lessons. They are going to fly me to who knows where for a month and put me up. I went back with a price of $2000 per week. They are confused by my response as they were offering $600 per week. Will keep you all informed, this should be a mind game for sure.

The best guitar lessons you could give a 7 year old would be piano lessons IMHO. I've had a few young-un's for students, and I couldn't get them to practice enough to build their callusses up to where they could play.
Some people have more money than brains. |

Larry, When I taught guitar, the youngest student I had was 6 years old. He had the ability to learn, but his hand was too small.
I think they should wait for his body to grow or keep watching ebay for a good deal on a hand stretcher.........JD |

It seems to me that a scam artist would offer more than $600/week.
Anyway, since this isn't about "Pedal Steel" I've moved it to the "Music" section of the Forum.

A lot of money for most teachers, nowhere near enough for Larry though, he should get his $2000.00. A value at half the price. |

But Larry..........you've informed the world a short time ago, right here on this Forum, that you NEVER CHARGE for lessons; that you're always glad to share your God Given talent with anyone that is interested in talking steel guitar. You've even shared examples of how one fellow came and stayed at your home for a full week and took lessons and you never charged him a thin dime. NOW LARRY, I'm not attempting to embarass or cause friction, I just feel the Forum is worthy of a factual clarification. WHICH WAY IS IT? Can't be both ways?, can it? |

Considering what some parents spend on tennis camps, dance lessons etc. this might not be such a bad idea. If the tyke's too short, fat, or uncoordinated to support his parents through sports, rock and roll stardom might be the way to go. The investments of Tiger Wood's and the Williams sister's dads paid off, but it's not a given. |

Let us know when they get to the part where they want to pay you with a check for $150,000 and want you to give them their change by bank check. This is just another common scam fellas. NOBODY is gonna fly a perfect stranger off to teach their SEVEN YEAR OLD to play guitar (not even steel guitar), when beginning guitar teachers are a dime a dozen in every town in America. I get the same email twice a week and I don't even teach guitar. Heck, I've even gotten it to teach piano! Get real, fellas, this is the same old scam. |

Jim is right. Its a straight up scam known as "the Nigerian 419 scam". What I do is forward the Emails to a fake yahoo account and Email them back all sorts of crazy stuff just to waste there time. If 10% of the people they contacted would reply and get a conversation going it would clog up there in boxes and stop them.
Just remember that there is nothing even close to real or true in those scams and do not let them have any of your personal information.

Bob you got it right, it is all about an email I received, a scam job. I went back to them with this rediculous offer of $2000 just to blow their minds.
Ray you are correct about the free lessons, come over anytime, just bring that great sounding PP with you.
