I just got the re-issue of Judee Sill`s second album "Heart Food" , and what a CD it is ! Easily holds it`s own and then some with the best of 70`s singer/songwriter albums .Imagine the best parts of Browne , Mitchell(without the vibrato...) and Carole King rolled into one with a dose of Brian Wilson in the production...
An absolute gem of an album with nine demos and outtakes added to the original.
As an icing , Buddy Emmons plays on a few of the cuts.If you like this genre , you owe it to yourself to this out !!!

Judee was one of my dearest friends when I lived in LA, I truly loved her. Her suicide left all of us in a deep state of shock. She was one of the best songwriters I'd ever heard, because she was one of the best people I knew.

I still play the Vinyl album, but if there is new stuff, I'll be ordering the CD next time I've built up a wish list.
Cheers
Dave

Wow, I have her original "album" and have been looking for it on CD (and iTunes) for years. Shawn Colvin does a version of "There's A Rugged Road" on her "Covergirl" CD. It just amazes me that Judee's name came up on this forum (of all forums) and Herb was her close friend. Like the saying goes "it's a small world"...

Dennis,
I was so blown away by the album that I just had to share the feeling. This is the only forum I post on so , with the Emmons angle I thought it would fit .Actually there are a lot of players like me on the Forum who were introduced to the PSG by early 70`s country rock/folk/singer-songwriter stuff which featured steel quite prominently.
The re-issue I have is a Rhino limited edition which is probably sold out but a standard re-issue is due in October , along with Judee`s 1st album. It`s cheaper, too...
