I keep watching this old show and the left handed lead player on there is really good as are all the other players. Who is he and is he still playing? Some fine steel pickers on it to.

Well,it could've been Dale Sellers or Arliss Scott. Unfortunately,Arliss has,since,passed away. Was he w/ the "staff" band,or was he working for an artist? Can you tell us who was the "star" of the show?

He was part of the staff band. Was there with Billy Walker and Del Reeves on a lot of the shows.

I've made an attempt to call George Owens,who played rhythm gtr. w/ Del Reeves on those tv shows. As soon as I hear from him,I'll post the info,however,I'd almost bet that it was Dale Sellers. Dale did a LOT of session work here,in NashVILE,'specially for Pete Drake. Dale WAS working w/ Wayne Newton,in Las Vegas. Last heard from,Dale was in North Lake,Wi.

I have an album,("The Pete Drake Show-recorded live from Frontier City in Onsted,Mich.") that features Dale on a vocal.

Thanks. I really like to watch the old shows. Those were pickers back then. Guitars and amps. No gimmicks. To me that's the first sign of a good player when they can sit down with only a guitar & amp and play great stuff.

It was Arliss Scott. I taped the show
for a close friend of the family to send to his uncle.

Thanks. I don't usually get interested in any instruments other than the steel players on the old shows but he really plays some nice stuff and has a good touch on the lead guitar on the reruns.

There is one show where Arliss is featured on the first number. Sitting next to Billy Walker.
That one aired several months ago and I haven't seen it rerun yet.
He was a fine musician.

Let me add that I had a couple of affirmations on this. I got a call from Geo. Owens,& he,also,re-assured me that it was Arliss Scott,& Jim Vest told me that Arliss passed away from cancer,not even two yrs ago.
Arliss was one of the original members of Jim's "Nashville Cats" band. If I recall correctly,Arliss,not only,played left-handed,but also "upside-down"! In other words,a right-handed guitarist could play his guitar,also,w/o any changes. AMAZING!!!
So,it was,indeed,Arliss,& NOT Dale Sellers.
Sorry for the confusion. I'll try to get my information next time,BEFORE I post.

It was Arliss Scott, Arliss was a great guitar player,I was playing Bass with Billy when Arliss came on board.Sonny Burnette was playing Steel Guitar,also George Lewis on Drums.On the TV shows we had Jerry Whitehurst on Piano And the great Walter Haynes on Rhythm Guitar. Max
