Hey Folks, could one of you fine non pedal steelers tell me if Miss Cindy plays a 6 or 8 string non pedal and do you know what tunings she uses? Also does she have a triple or double neck? Thanks Frank

Frank, in all the pictures I've seen of Cindy she is playing an 8 string doubleneck. She probably has a number of different guitars though, most of the pros do. What a winning combination, great sound and great looks too!

The fine Ms. Cashdollar, yes, probably owns several guitars. But I know she uses a triple neck Stringmaster with Leon McAuliffe's E13 on one neck, E6 on another, and - well, I don't know: Maybe A6, or C#mi7 on the third. She probably bounces between tunings AND guitars, because she also plays a Remington Steel non-pedal. She's a great player and a good teacher, too. Check out her instructional tapes on Homespun and you might agree with me. BTW, those are eight-string guitars.

There's an interview with Cindy C in Stacy Phillips' Complete Dobro Book, and as I recall, in there she says that with AATW she uses E13, C6 and E6 - the E6 and C6 with the same intervals but just using them for different songs, different keys.

Thanks so much guys,the reason I asked about Miss is Cindy I'm in the market for a non-pedal.I play pedal now but our band could use that special sound that one gets from a fender or what ever ,any ideas.Frank

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy these videos at a resonable price? I see them on eBay all the time, but usually go for $40 a piece (seems high).

Jay - You shouldn't have to spend much more than $50. for the SET of tapes. Elderly lists them for about $25./each, but go to www.scottysmusic.com - Scotty sells the set for a discounted price, and besides, he's a better source for steel guitar anything than Elderly is. (Now I'll have started trouble with somebody at Elderly, I suppose!)

I don't know Cindy's tunings but I do know that the last time I watched her play, she used ALL THREE of her tunings in the same song, several times, switching back and forth between necks for various parts of the song.

Ricky or Herb could answer this better I'm sure but what I know -
There was a Stringmaster for sale at South Austin Music that was Cindy Cashdollars I'm told. I fooled with it for a couple minutes. It had C6th on the inside neck and E6 and E13 (the Leon McCallife version if I remember correctly) with the E6 on the outside neck I believe. It was still in tune, by the way. you got to love old fenders!!

What Rich just said is true; those are her tunings.
Of course I tried to get Cindy to use my D6/9 tuning that I mess with often enough and she may even have it on a guitar now>cause she even got the string guages from me.

I'll find out more from Cindy when I talk to her directly on Saturday.
But it is commonplace that she is cashin' it in at the first of the year. She is a sweetheart and great player; but this has been a rough year for all of us it seems and the Wheel can be a grueling gig and I don't know how any of them stick it out for more than a year; let along 5 or 6.

Ricky, would you ask her to make make more dobro instructional tapes? I have her first Homespun and it is the best instructional material I have. The tapes by others leave significantly more to the imagination and my imagination is poor. Thanks

Ok I spoke with Cindy last night and passed along everybodys encouraging words. I told her of all the nice stuff being said about her instructional videos and material; and she is getting more stuff out this March>so look for it.
She wanted me to thank everyone on her behalf and really put a big smile on her face.
She was playing here Black Remington triple-8 and sounded great. She also played Dobro on a couple of songs and man was that great>The girl has the touch there for sure.
As far as who is next up for the gig; well that would be the person that understands this gig is life consuming; and you are owned by "Asleep at the Wheel". It has always been one of my dreams to pick with the folks>but who knows what's down the road for any of us. Music business is a funny thing>"It can be anything at anytime"
Oh and Brother Herb Steiner picked with the opening band; and of course Herb is super King. Matter of fact>at Herb's expence>I'm taking back everything I've said about the "Kitchen Cabinet" steel guitars.
Herb's Emmons sounded so good and I could only dream of a tone like that man gets.

Howdy Ricky- I'll get back to the Cindy thread in a minute but first I want to pay a compliment to your lapsteel- It is GORGEOUS! I bet it sounds as nice as it looks.
Anyway, back to Cindy C.. I am part of the organizing committee for the "National Resophonic Night Out" here in MN, a celebration of all instruments with reso cones. We are starting to contact some national players with as many representative styles as we can(delta blues, delta slide, bluegrass, swing and Hawaiian). We're planning on a 2 day event with seminars and master performances. It'll probably be in June. Cindy's name came up at our last meeting as being someone to ask about being a headline performer and teacher. Since you know her, could you ask her if she might be interested? I'll put her in touch with Gabriella Sweet who is our organizer. Thanks!

To Jim Cohen- you got it! back in the 30'-40's we used to play all 3 necks back and forth in one song. Cindy's tunings were about the best to use, E13 and E6(C#min7), for 3 necks, we also used A6 , a very good tuning and relative to E13 and E6.

She is a great player.

That was all great stuff, we used to play back in the late 30's and early 40's.
But for me, I was glad to move on to pedals. Didn't have to jump necks any more for a tuning, just push a pedal, very smooth, and a lot easier....Happy New Year and New Century.....al
