I was reading the booklet that came with a Chet Atkins CD and they talked about an album by the Country All Stars that was comprised of Chet, Jerry, Homer, & Jethro performing String Jazz Selections. One song included on the cd by them was "Darkness On the Delta" that had alot of Jerry Byrd playing on it.

Wayne: I vividly recall that album and that song. They were milestones for me when I was a kid just getting started in this Steel Guitar World. Thanks for bringing it back !!

I have 2 of the original 78's on RCA Victor,"disc jockey samples",w/ white labels.
"Darkness On The Delta" b/w
"In A Little Spanish Town"
and
"Indiana March" b/w
"Sweet Ga. Brown"
The pickers listed on the label are:
Guitars: C. Atkins,H. Haynes
Mandolin: J. Burns
Bass: C. (Charles) Grean &
"with steel guitar".
Its,Jerry Byrd,but since he was under contract to Mercury at the time,they,obviously,could not post his name.
I have ordered this CD,'cause I loved what they did on these 78's. Can't wait to get it.
I,also,have an album,(vinyl),entitled,"Identified",by the Nashville String Band,which consists of Chet,Homer,& Jethro. No other pickers (drums,bass,etc.) are listed on the album. The album was released in 1971.

| Those tunes were largely recorded during a lull while the musicians were waiting for the next vocalist to appear for his session. It turned out to be Bobby Williamson who did a great job on four sides (Just Skip It; I Remember; etc.) The late Dale Potter, on fiddle is also heard on that series; his tunes "Fiddle Sticks" and "Fiddle Faddle" are both in that set, I'd imagine. I think they did an outstanding job on "The Lady in Red".........more jazzy, for that day and age. |

| I was reading the book about Atkins guitars and in it he mentions doing a daily radio show on WSM-just Atkins and Jerry Byrd. Man, would you like to hear some of that!! |
