Does anybody know who played steel on Hank Snow's "Sacred Songs" Alblum recorded by RCA LPM # 1638 & "Highest Bidder" alblum LPM # 1965? Also what tuning was used, what kind of steel guitar & amp was used (name). I have a friend who plays steel who asked If I could find any information out for him. Thank you

I'll venture a guess of,either,"Big Joe" Talbot,or Buford Gentry. Buford was playin' steel for him,when I saw them in '55 or '56.

If memory (still) serves, Noel Boggs and/or Kayton(sp?) Roberts are long-time connections to Hank Snow. Could be either one.

I don't think it would have been Kayton or Howard because,if you'll notice the record "stock" numbers,they start with "LPM",which means they are not stereo. The later RCA stereo discs started with "LSP". Besides that,the numbers themselves are so low that this would indicate that they would've been released in the late '50's,or early 60's at best. To the best of my knowledge,neither Kayton,nor Howard were with Hank at that time. As far as Noel is concerned,I don't think it would've been him,because I believe he was,pretty much,located on the west coast,working with Spade Cooley,Jimmy Wakely,& such.
To further corroborate my statement,I have,in my collection,a couple of Hank's LP's. One is LPM-1435,released in 1957,& the other is LSP-2043,released in 1960. So both the albums that Harry mentioned,would've been pre '60 at best.

Jerry tells a story about the Snow in Hawaii LP. I hope my memory is correct. Joe was approached to do this LP but refused for whatever reason so Jerry ended up doing it. CC

As you all know, Hank Snow was signed by RCA-Canada and his first record was cut October 29th, 1936. Hank's first "American" recording was in December, 1949. Hanks' "Souveniers" Album LPM-2285 is a Hi-Fidelity Recording..........autographed by Hank Snow especially for Jerry Byrd which now is among my collection.
