There's a triple neck Fender Stringmaster on Ebay,a 60's and looks real nice. I'm curious to see what the final price turns out to be.

It would be nice for ..B11-C6-E13 all on one guitar.With that "Special" mixed twin pick-up sound.

Those are both real nice. It looks to me like the twin neck might have a couple knobs missing, but I really don't know much about those, I could be seeing things

No knobs missing,the '51 has push-button switches instead of a Tele type neck selector switch.
What I want to know is,what is that orange stuff in between the necks of the Triple?

Now I'm confused. The twin neck is listed as a '51 and has the dual tele pick ups. My '53 Deluxe has the old DC pick ups in it, and I've seen other twins recently with the same DC pickups. Were the Tele pickups used before the DC pickups? I thought they didn't start using those until about '55 or so.

Someone please help me sleep late at night.

That double neck is NOT a '51. The first 2 PU Stringmaster was '54----maybe '53?----who's got the Smith book handy?. Still a nice looking guitar.

Y'all just keep in mind that the tripple neck is described as a "long scale"... sure would sound better but slants may be a nightmare.

Right. Mine is 24<font size=1>^¹/₂</font>" (I think) and slants on adjacent strings are a bit rough on the low frets. Some had even longer scales (26"?). Slants aren't as important in rock-a-billy and western swing as they are in Hawaiian music.

It's remarkable that Fender made such a variety of steels in the 50's! But I agree that the double neck doesn't look like a a '51.

I'm pretty sure, from the hardware, that neither of these guitars is a 26" model. That was discontinued pretty early on ('55, '56?) After that long and short scale referred to the 24" and 22.5" scales.
As has been stated here a number of times, as per the Smith book, the 26" was Leo's favorite sounding guitar but the bar slant and string breakage issue led to the end of this model.

Yeah, I thought the same, Jon. But then, I'm not a Fender expert and pictures can fool you a bit... Maybe he masured across the guitar... pretty long, you know, on a Richter scale... .

Of course.... I wait forever looking for a Stringmaster...then right after I get a Dual 8 Professional....they show up!

Oddly enough,the first Stringmaster I ever saw in person close up was about five years ago in Everett,WA(the same location as the seller of the instrument pictured on E-bay)and it had the same orange fuzz between the necks!It was for sale in a music store.

I would say the "orange fuzz" between the necks is to help prevent bar dings and scratches. It looks like the same material as his case lining. I've seen some pedal steels with similar materials between their necks.

The "fuzz" stuff is actually a felt like cloth held down by a gum type of adhesive, the seller says. Asked him to peel it off a bit to see if the adhesive might have eaten into the finish. As you see on the added photo, there's no damage. Scale length is 22 1/2" , a short scale, as the last fret marker is at 29th fret rather than 31st which is for 24 1/2" long scale.This was confirmed by the seller who posted correction. Also fyi, the small switch above the top-hat neck selecter switch is to turn on all the necks simultaneously. The guitar is heavy but I was told the handle of the case is " strong and secure". This may be of some help to those who wishes to bid in.
