I was searching through some old video tapes last night when i stumbled across a programme i recorded when i was in my teens.It featured a forum member,step forward Mr Roger Rettig.
Roger was doing a mighty fine job of teaching a young guy to play the guitar by the name of alistair cherry.Roger can you enlighten me on what happened to him because i never heard any more from him.Many thanks- Col

I almost didn't bother to read this thread as its title was somewhat enigmatic...
I lost touch with Alistair, and I moved to the USA in '98 anyway. I'd almost forgotten that film. In a weak moment I accepted some teaching work at the Guitar Institute, but immediately regretted it! I don't have the right temperament for that work, as I'm too easily irritated when I don't see any effort being made.
In Alistair's case, he'd won a scholarship at the Institute by winning a TV-sponsored talent-search for high-acheiving youngsters. He found himself in my class, as he preferred country playing, and already had a B-bender on his Tele!
I enjoyed my time with him, but I doubt that I showed him anything that he wouldn't have found, eventually, on his own. He had flair, and I saw myself in him at the same age - limitless enthusiasm and a total love for guitars and music.
I invited him to come backstage at a tour I was doing around that time; I was with song-writer Sonny Curtis, and Alistair, despite his tender years, knew exactly who Sonny was (ex-Cricket, writer of 'Walk Right Back', 'I Fought The Law' and many others), and was very excited to meet him.
I trust he still perseveres, and I'd be interested to hear any news of him and his Dad.

Hi Roger thanks for taking the time to reply.Yes you still had your hair in the film.Alistair was a very good player and at the time i envied him as that's how i would like to have played i never had proper lessons but have worked hard at it and thankfully got there.But anyway i hope you hear from Alistair or his dad,if i ever happen to bump in to them i will certainly mention your name.All the best-Col
