Bob Dylan, (accompanied by Levon Helms, Robbie Robertson, and other members of the future group "The Band") got booed off the stage in NYC for using an electric guitar.
Thank goodness we are more open minded about music these days. |

If you're talking about the Newport Folk Festival I was there.
It was quite an experience, as Bob Dylan was my favorite singer at the time and I knew I was witnessing history being made! |

Ben, as best I remember, I read that in the book, What a Long Strange trip it's Been." Might be wrong about the source, but not the statement.
And I can't BELIEVE you'd want to argue... |

If I remember right, accomplished B@#JO player Garcia and his friends electrified in 1964, after seeing "A Hard Day's Night." |

Garcia actually walked out on Dylan at the Hollywood Bowl. Much the same reaction was received at that venue. The source is right-it's referred to in the book mentioned. Garcia, at the time, was a major folkie playing traditional bluegrass music on b@njo. He was, in fact, considered one of the top 5 young players in the country. He went along with the typically purist bluegrass thinking, no drums, no amps. Included in this group was a young David Nelson as I recall. They went to the concert knowing what was going to happen, and when the second set started electrically, they all walked down the center aisle and out-specifically so Dylan could see them leave. Garcia went on to become one of Dylan's biggest fans, and the two toured together often, releasing at least 2 live versions of Dylan and the Dead over the years.

Hey JB what's up - I expected that by now you would be posting pictures of the earlybird arrivals at the Millenium, but it looks like you're still sitting at home with your library close at hand!
I'd like to think we are generally more open-minded these days, Joey, but sometimes it seems like we just keep finding new things to be narrow-minded about! All just part of the human condition.... |
