For all you Richie and Poco fans, here’s an update on Richie.

We just finished the final mixes for Richie’s new CD yesterday, produced by myself and Richie. It goes to mastering next week and will be out in late September. It is another devotional record, much like his last one, but even better. Same core band—Michael Rhodes, Pete Wasner, Chris Leuzinger and Dennis Holt, but with the addition of Dan Dugmore on guitars. Dan brought an amazing energy and palette of sounds to this record. Lots a great guests. On the song “So Far to Go”, it’s a regular country rock extravaganza with Rusty Young on dobro, Jimmy Messina on electric, Sam Bush and Chris Hillman on mandolins, Sam on fiddle, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on harmonies. Paul Cotton has a guest solo, and Dan and I share the steel duties on a couple of tunes. I think Richie is singing as good as he ever has.

Poco also shot a live DVD this summer with Richie at the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, and should be out this fall.

Richie is finishing the definitive book on Poco with Michael Roberts to be out sometime next year.

My favorite news is that we go in the studio December 6th to record Richie’s first mainstream secular record since SHF. Same core band as above, but look forward to some really great guests like Steve Winwood. Hopefully, there will be appearances by Neil Young and Stephen Stills , among other surprises. There will be a couple of remakes (like Kind Woman, cut the way he always wanted, but never achieved) and a bunch of great new songs.

Just though you might like to know…

All great news, John; thanks for the update. I can't imagine what else Richie wanted from "Kind Woman"; it was darn near perfect the way the Springfield recorded it. Certainly the initial impetus for me to become a steel player.

Thanks, John. I'm one of the few people who bought the SHF Band albums.
