Question for Buddy Emmons

Buddy - A friend of mine is trying to find out who might have sang harmony for Ray Price in the early "black & white" days of television. He said the guy would stand slightly off-camera, and come into view during the chorus of a song. I think he said he wasn't playing an instrument at the time. The song that got his attention was Heartaches By the Number.

Kenny, I believe that singer would have been Van Howard. Sorry to horn in Buddy but I am sure that's right.

I ain't Buddy,but I hope I'm your "buddy".
The guy I remember back then was Van Howard.
I believe he's still w/ us,but out of the "music business". (now THERE'S an oxymoron for ya.)

Smiley, That's why it took you a bit longer. The age thing. Didn't Van play guitar also? Either way the guy could nail those harmonies.

Several years ago, Van Howard Came to the TSGA Show. I managed to get Dale Potter on fiddle and Jimmy Day on steel and Curtis Potter to sing Ray Price's hits and Van on harmony. Incredible. One of the great highlights of past TSGA Shows. Jody.

Thanks for the help guys...It didn't have to be Buddy, I just figured he'd know for sure! I guess my buddy Smiley has been around long enough to be called the "Official Historian."
Jody - I'm sorry I missed that show! That would have been a good one to have attended.

I have that b&w clip of Ray singing Heartaches By The Number and the guy singing harmony part is not Van Howard. I don't know who it is, but the clip sounds like a tv-station studio orchestra, no steel and fiddles, but lush string section.

I also have the Heartaches By The Number clip.
That is Ray Sanders.
After he left Cherokee Cowboys,Darrell McCall joined the group.

I worked with Ray Sanders on occasion at the Foothill Club in Long Beach, back in the late sixties. Not many people know, but Ray was a great impressionist (vocal). He could sound exactly like Ray Price, and his Freddie Hart imitation would crack you up, big time. Aaah the good old days.
