Christies will be auctioning many guitars that EC is selling off to finance a just cause.
there are a few axes that belonged to Albert Lee, Larry Carlton, SRV and his brother Jimmy amongst them too http://www.christies.com/promos/jun04/claptonGuitars/promo_gallery.asp?page=12
the prices are way above my budget but i enjoyed lookin' at all this stuff

The benefit is for the Crossroads Center which looks like a deluxe Carribean spa for very wealthy people. $15,000 (plus a cash deposit for medical emergencies) to get into there basic 12 step program with no insurance accepted.

Unless there is something I'm not finding on the site it looks pretty pompous to me.

Very interesting, Bob.

When I saw EC is selling guitars to benifit a drug rehab center, this is not what I imagined.

My very question, Bob, ever since I heard about the cause during the last auction. Gee whiz--you mean I can help pay for a junkie rock star's rehab? Where do I send the check?!
Unless, as you say, there's something I'm missing.

It sounds like we're gonna boycott this auction.

I do enjoy looking at the pictures though.

Is he referring to the locals or is it just all the celebrities there who have the drug and alcohol problems?

Its probably a great place and is helping some people out. But my gut feeling is if you can't kick dope or booze by going to meetings in dingy church basements like most of us riff raff did then a beautiful tropical resort isn't going to help.

There is something on the site about scolarships being available so Clapton's heart might be in the right place. He just spends to much time hanging out with rich people I guess.

"Full payment must be received prior to admission. Crossroads Centre does not accept insurances and therefore all payments must be made by one of the following means: Cash, credit card (American Express, MasterCard, Discover Card, VISA), certified bank draft, Wire transfer."

ANYBODY KNOW IF THEY TAKE PAYPAL??

I've heard from someone who works as a substance abuse counselor that Crossroads is one of the best programs for in patient treatment... it's pretty rare for insurance to pay for anything more than a week of detox, from what this guy told me... so generally, people are on their own for the 30/60/90 day type place. The price is actually not that far out of line, either.

The prices are not out of line, but it's hard to think of a facility like that as a "charity". Sounds like a tax dodge to me.

Looks like Clapton's working overtime to try and fund this thing. He must have a lot of friends in need....
