Got me a 53 wide screen & a killer surround
system. Bout the only DVD's I've got are music. Got some good disc's but the best all around DVD I've got is Eric Clapton's, "One more car,one more rider". I'm am NOT a big Clapton fan, but the picture,production & mix are unbeatable! Steve Gadd,Nathan East,Billy Preston....all play some great stuff! I never thought much of Eric's singing but on this, He's Great!
Love to see some Country artist try and do something like this. Anyway...anybody else seen this & what are your picks for best music DVD.

Some of the latest country CDs come with a DVD included. They're pretty neat. The Randy Travis CD with "Three Crosses" comes with a DVD taken at his ranch by Santa Fe, NM. I have the latest CD by Martina McBride and that also comes with a DVD.
This is kind of the best of both worlds. You can listen to and watch them at the same time.

| There is a live one by The Highwaymen(Willie, Johnny, Waylon, and Kris) I'll be getting soon. The show they gave on Oahu a few years back was beyond belief. Not much staging or lighting, just a bunch of true pros kickin ass! Another concert release by them has been out on video for years, and well worth every cent. |

| THE LAST WALTZ - the last concert by THE BAND in its original form with many luminaries sharing the stage from Bob Dylan to Joni Mitchell to neil young to Van the Man - is out on DVD in pristine form and sound. Neil Young & Frineds LIVE AT RED ROCKS is a modern recording that looks and sounds phenominal and features a lot of ben Keith. |

Fleetwood Mac's "The Dance" is a good one. And of course "Concert for George".
James Taylor has a real good one out too, but I forget the title. Others in my library are Sting, Pat Metheny and David Gilmore. I recommend all of them for the production quality, assuming you like their music.
I haven't found any high-quality concert DVDs that have much steel guitar. Darn! We need an equivalent of "Panther Hall" on DVD.
Avoid DVDs of music videos, if you can get concerts instead. I discovered that the Nora Jones concert DVD was actually cheaper than her music CD, and it had more songs! I much prefer watching a band to listening to a studio production.

| I agree about Neil Young's "Live at Red Rocks". The picture and sound are great, and I learned a few things from watching Ben Keith on steel. Jim Keltner and Duck Dunn are just about the best rock rhythm section in the world, in my opinion. Yes, that's a good one! |

BOTH of James Taylor's DVDs are a 'must' - one is 'Live At The Beacon' in NYC, and the other is called 'Pull Over'. There is, inevitably, some duplication of songs, but both are superbly produced with great sound. The "Beacon' disc won a Grammy for best sound that year, I believe.
I have the Alison Krauss one, too -  !!!

I agree... Last Waltz, Hell Freezes Over, Allison Kraus. I don't have surround sound yet...someday I'll really get to enjoy these DVD's!
Although not "the best music DVD" I also like the "other" "Red" Rhodes (I think there are at least 2 steel players by that name) who plays PSG on Mike Nesmith's "Live at the Britt". That show is what got me interested in finding out about that weird looking piano Red was sitting at.  |

| I can't say I'm thoroughly crazy about her music, and as singers go, she is fair to middling in my book, but catch the Diana Krall Live in Paris DVD. It isn't so much her looks but this is one of the nicest concert CD's I've ever watched or listened to. Really high production values and a terrific performance by her and her goofy looking guitar player (not Russ Malone) who plays exceedingly well. This sounds like faint praise, but I recommend it. If the producer could only do something about the looks of her future husband, Elvis, he'd have something. |

| B0B, I also got Pat Matheny's "Speaking of Now, Live" from Japan and what a fine performance musically and visually for the jazz purists. My wide screen brings them right in my lap. |

For those of you with a leaning towards the harder stuff, the Mudvayne DVD is also pretty good. These guys (especially the bass player and drummer, in that order) have really worked at becoming good at their craft....granted it's not for the faint of heart, but I like it. Solid musicianship (or should I say gymnastics?)
I'm glad I don't have to work that hard when I play!
