We opened for Josh Turner last night here in Buffalo. You should have seen his face when 700 rowdy's in cowboy hats began singing the words to "Long Black Train" back at him. He was nearly moved to tears. He opened up with "Folsom Prison Blues" and the place went wild. Tequilla and beer flowing freely.
I encourage all of you to get ACTIVELY get involved in local country music. Go to the biggest rock club with a sound system. Organize a country night once a week with the owner. Get the local country radio station involved. Contact the local line dance groups. Bring in both national and local country acts. Hold a local country jamboree. I have now turned country concert promoter and people are coming out of the brick to see and hear country music. There is too much carping on this forum and not enough action. |

Kevin...
My wife was born in Buffalo, and all her family live near there, in Alden and Lancaster. So just where was this great event? Inquiring minds want to know!!

Kevin: I was born in Jamestown, southeast of Buffalo. I lived in Buffalo for 4 years in the 60's and played music all over the area including Batavia and Niagara falls. I was more into rock then and I don't recall much of a country music scene in those days. I came to my senses and back into country music in the 70's here in Ca.
It's nice to hear Buffalo is still hopping. Might actually get back for a visit next summer.

This certainly brings back some memories for me. I used to play between Rochester and Buffalo - including in/near Jamestown - in the early 80s. Sure were tons of live gigs in those days! |
