I think is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. I would love to hear a tasteful steel version of this one. (One may exist already).

Scroll about halfway down. Artist is listed as Scott Tichenor, and I would guess the guitar player is the author, Bill Crahan.
It's just accoustic guitar and mandolin, and would sound as good with just accoustic guitar and steel, being as the steel is similar in range.

| That song was written in the '40s by blind musician Leon Payne, one of the best writers country music has ever seen. His song "I Love You Because" is already a steelers' favorite! |

| The song written by Leon Payne was "You've still got a place in my heart". I don't believe that is the same song mentioned in the post above. Leon Payne was one of the all time greats for sure. |

Les, That is a beautiful song.
I think Frank is right these are two differant songs that everyone is talking about.
Althought Leon Payne wrote so many love songs that went from beautiful to dark. One of his biggest hits was "Lost Highway" by Hank Williams.
One of his darkest is a song called "Psycho" where he kills his ex-wife, her boyfriend, his brother, the dog, the girl next door, then his mother. What a great song.

Leon Payne, Jr., Leon's son, appeared many times with us when we played the Brush Country Jamboree, in George West, Texas. He only sang his Dad's songs, which included those, along with a lot of great Gospel songs, also penned by Leon.
I never met Leon Sr., but his son is a great man, and a good friend.
And yes, that is a different song.
