Dolly Pardon-A real country talent

Once again Dolly Parton shows real class and talent on the Texas Country Special. A real country music entertainer. None of the pop/rock wannabe nonsense. Superb singer, songwriter, entertainer. She didn't even have to show her belly button. I wonder why?
[This message was edited by Kevin Hatton on 03 March 2003 at 08:55 PM.]

I agree that she's a talented lady. I can think of two big reasons why she doesn't have to show her belly button

You're right, Kevin. She's above using sex to help sell her music.

None of the pop/rock wannabe nonsense?
Where were you 20 years ago?
How 'bout the "bluegrass wannabe" today.

And, what was that #1 song Dolly had in 1977? . . . . . hmmm . . . Oh yes, I remember -- it was "Here you Come Again"

Sorry -- I couldn't resist. In all seriousness, though, Dolly has mounds of talent, and making fun of her makes me feel like a big boob.

Only a handful of entertainers can do it like that.
[This message was edited by Larry Miller on 04 March 2003 at 11:25 AM.]

I once thought I saw Dolly seated in the audience. When the house lights came up I realized it was just two bald headed men sitting next to each other.
I agree she is a major talent.

I'm glad Dolly is recording good music again. She probably was doing 20 years of penance for having recorded "Wind Beneath My Wings" back in the early 80's which, for a country singer, is a hell of a lot closer to Robert Goulet than it is to Roy Acuff.

And, there's the neo-traditionalist anthem, "Islands in the Stream."

UUUGH!!! Jeff, if I never hear that song again the sound of silence will be the sound of me not complaining. Man that was a painful song to listen to.

Do any of you listen carefully to lyrics?
Islands in the stream has a line that goes:-
"I set out to get you with a fine-tooth comb"
Now you may do thing differently on your side of the pond, but over here the only thing you go to get with a fine-tooth comb are nits and lice out of kids' hair.
It doesn't seem very romantic to compare one's beloved to a louse.
Cheers

in my country -rock youth I had the good fortune to be in a band that opened a show for Ms Parton. this was prior to her mega crossover stardom," 9 to 5," kenny rogers duets, all that drek.
She was one of the few stars we opened for at this venue to make a point of stopping to talk with the opening band- and points she made, in a black skintight pantsuit wit a spray of rhinestones from shoulder to opposite hip in a spider web pattern.... yowsah!!

Anybody mention that she plays a mean banjo?

Personally I prefer the great surrealistic country singer Salvadore Dali Parton, who is most famous for the big hit "9 to the square root of infinity."

If Dolly Parton had married Salvatore Dali, She would be Dolly Dali.
And if after the marriage, she got a pet lama, it would be the Dolly Dali lama.

Alright Mike, you started it! (Sorry Kevin)
If Dolly married Tommy Smothers,
divorced him and married Martin Short, divorced him and married Buddy Guy, divorced him and married Ted Dancin,
she'd be...
Dolly Parton Smothers Short Guy Dancin.
