I do think that Joe Diffie has a fine voice - he just does way too many of those 'six-pack' southern rock-type songs for my taste.
I wonder if he likes them or if the record company tells him to put more line-dancing songs on his albums; when he handles sensitive material, he's one of the very best singers in country music. |

There has been nothing done by this lineup lately that draws my interest. I think I'll take the wife out to dinner and a Movie..if the comments early Sunday say it was a great show I'll peak on Sundays re-run as I do most times.

Joe is one of those male artist that sings as country and contemporary.
I'm looking forward to hearing he,Jimmy and Kellie Saturday night!

Joe uses steel on records.
I'm saddened he doesn't have steel on the road. Unfortunately, Joe doesn't sell music like others do. He's been as pure as anyone.
I still think he can sing a great song if pure country or contemporary!

As most of you know, Joe Diffie is part of the Rockin' Roadhouse Tour along with Mark Chesnutt and Tracy Lawrence. I saw them last weekend at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and it appeared to me that they were traveling with Mark's steel player who played on all songs no matter who was singing. I can't recall his name, although he is a GREAT player. Since most of the shows Joe is playing is with this tour, that could be the reason that he has no steel player on his "one off's" such as the GOO as Mark is probably playing somewhere as well. Wouldn't it be great if Tommy would set in with him.
Incidentally, Joe CAN sing the heck out of a country song. Of course, this is as always MHO.

Folks i was gonna start my own topic on Joe Diffie and the Opry there still some Good Country Music out there were just not getting to hear it and I do mean Joe Diffie. His pitch was impeccable, his phrasing, and also his feeling flawless. im sorry boys and girls if you dont agree Joe Diffie is one of the greatest country singers in the last 15 years, I may not have liked every song the label made him record but his performance on the Opry tonight just showed he's in the upper .001%
i was doing a session with an engineer that has 1000 top ten records to his credit about 10 years ago(Lou Bradly-he stopped loving her today, behind closed doors, take this job and shove it anyway you get my drift. we were talking about the studio vocal and a live vocal when he said Joe Diffie was the only one he had ever heard do it exactly the same. and by the way Haggard flies him out for all his sessions in the last 10 years so he's been in heavy company for the last 30 years, and tonight Joe Diffie did it again if you can catch the repeat telecast tonight hes midway thru it. You ll get a chance to hear a real country singer. absolutly one of the best.

Joe Diffie was everything I'd hoped he'd be on the Opry - and I couldn't believe my luck when he chose to do one of my favourite songs from his repertoire - 'Ships That Don't Come In'.
Thanks to Randy Carson for his summation of Joe's talent - I couldn't agree more, Randy. Joe is, in my opinion, the best out there, and the regrettable fact that he no longer carries a steel player means that we got to hear Tommy White as well !
My only regret? I didn't remember to set the tape, and only caught Joe's part of the show when I got in from my gig - can I hear this again somewhere, Janice?
Who remembers him duetting with Mary Chapin Carpenter on that early album of hers? I only had a 'pirate' cassette of that for years, and was frustrated not knowing who the fine singer was on that track with her - I got the CD, found out, then started buying JD's CDs...
