Why in the world would they elect Donna Summer as an officer of the Country Music Hall of Fame?!?! Have they completely exhausted the list of "country" artists?! This seems absurd to me.

As posted on CMT.com:
quote:
Gill, Summer Elected to Hall of Fame Posts
Vince Gill has been elected to a second one-year term as president of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Former Gaylord Entertainment president and CEO E.W. "Bud" Wendell was re-elected to a third one-year term as the Hall of Fame's chairman. Among the Hall of Fame's newly-elected officers is pop vocalist Donna Summer, best known for disco hits including "She Works Hard for the Money," "Love to Love You Baby" and "Last Dance." 03/13/03

I read that and thought it was a mistake. Why would The "Country" Music Hall of Fame elect the queen of disco to the board? Am I missing something here? I still don't get it!

I was told she likes country. She even did a country album a few years back. Maybe she has good management skills. Rockers in the country field! Who would have ever imagined?

Hey, I like country. I did a country album (three, actually) a few years back. I have good management skills. I "work hard for the money."

My problem, which probably disqualifies me: I think Shot Jackson's Sho~Bro should be in the museum, making me a total anachronism with my feet hopelessly stuck in the cement of the past.

Donna Summer? It's probably a spelling mistake...I'm sure they meant a country legend like Connie Smith or Dolly Parton or Loretta Lynn or...

This is the sort of thing that happens when certain of our members seek to expand the horizons of pedal steel guitar.

I hope she does like country music. That'd be cool. I'd be interested in what some of her favorite tunes are; checkin' the pedigree.

From www.dictionary.com :

Quote:
ap·point·ment - The act of appointing or designating someone for an office or position.

Maybe I should have said "New Country Music HOF Elected Officers". ;-)
