Bill was one of the Opry stalwarts. I always enjoyed he and his brother, Cliff. Glad Bill was inducted into the hall before he passed. I believe Eddie Stubbs is going to be doing a 5 hour tribute to him tomorrow night. Rest in peace, Bill.

One of my favorite lines came from Bill Carlisle, on the Ralph Emery show. Ralph asked,"How long you been in show business, Bill?"
And Bill replied,"Ever since they come out with it!"
RIP, Bill.

I understand that Bill was a champion high jumper. I remember him doing a tune and jumping up in the air with both legs straight out. What a performer. I think the song I associate with him most is "Do you need any help, do you need any help, no! I can handle this job all by myself!"

Erv,
That song was entitled,"No Help Wanted". I first met Bill, back in the late 50's/early 60's,when he played the NCO club at Westover AFB,in my hometown of Springfield,Ma. He had Buck Trent,on guitar & banjo,& Zane Beck on steel. Can't seem to remember the bass player. Just a few short years ago,I found an old 78 rpm in an antique store. It was by the Carlisle Bros. I think I paid .75 cents for it. I bought a frame,a piece of red velvet remnant for a background,& had a little brass "nameplate" made for it. I presented it to Bill,& you'd think he just received an induction to a HOF. These will be my fondest memories of Bill Carlisle,an ENTERTAINER,in the truest sense of the word, to the end. I will,of course, attend his services.

"Rusty Ole Halo"
One of Bill's great songs "Gone Home"- describes so many of the great artists of our music-we won't see their like again.

I was lucky enough to see Mr. Carlisle perform on the Grand Ole Opry back around 1985 or so. He was quite a jumper and had a couple of great tunes. May he rest in peace.

I first met Bill at a house Party I believe it was around 78-79. One night Smiley said we were going over to T.R.'s house for a few beers and Fun. Bill happened to be there cracking everyone up with his jokes and great warm personality. This man was genuine down to earth and I will always remember what this man meant to Country music and what it meant to him.God Bless Bill Carlilse and thank you Smiley.

Bill was a classic, one of the true "originals" of country music, and he will be forever remembered for his first hit record "Too Old To Cut The Mustard". Yep, Bill wrote that one, too!

I heard Bill make the comment on a TV interview once that he could "jump as high as ever, but couldn't stay up as long." I know the feeling.
