Just found out Mark Knopfler is recording, or planning to record an album with Emmylou Harris, with Dan Dugmore on steel!
Hope it opens again the market for steel!

On BBC Radio 2 playlist is a song "Two Moons" by Adam Snyder (I think a former member of Mercury Rev) with some brilliant, non-country, pedal steel playing all the way through.

I've seen references to this for a few years now... as I understand it, Mark K gets together with Emmylou whenever they happen to achieve some temporal and geographical concatenation i.e. when they're in the same place at the same time... and they record a little something, which hopefully will appear one day. Emmylou was involved in the sessions for Mark's last solo record ("Ragpicker's Dream") but as far as I know is not on the end result... http://www.guyfletcher.co.uk/studiodiary%20folder/studiodiaryweek3.html

If & when it appears, I'll definitely be in line for a copy!
