Altho not related to steel guitar, I thought this deserved mention. I just heard this morning that children advocate and icon, Fred Rogers passed away yesterday. The man lived an exemplory (sp) life and did much to help teach our children. He even featured music on segments of his show. I for one even enjoyed his show as an adult and by me, he will be sadly missed. R.I.P. "Mr. ROGERS !!

Through the years I have watched over the shoulders of my children and grandchildren while Mr. Rogers gently taught morality and responsibility while not appearing to do so. I may have learned more than they did, or at least I was reminded of things taught to me by my parents before television.
I hope that television producers see fit to make his shows available to future generations of children....but probably NOT! |

Mr. Rogers was also a fairly gifted musician. He wrote most of the music used on the show and wasn't a shabby piano player either. |

You know, it's funny who people pick.
I was going through my "blue" period. Nothing good going on, and I would sometimes watch the critters go to and fro past the hole in the side of my 12 foot trailer in the wrecking yard.
I used to watch MRN a lot. I liked the piano, and guys at work would get a kick out of my memorizing his songs.
Do you know? Do you know?
Do you know that it's alright to wonder?
Also had a crush on the gal. Mr Mac Feely's lady friend.
Some day there will be a top notch Jazz Pianist that will site his main influence, the piano he heard on MRN.
Also, as was pointed out, Fred's show was pointed at the kid sitting at home without any friends.
At one time, I was that kid.
At 35....

Fred Rogers did compose extensively and play...and his widow is a performing musician. A third jazz pianist, Johnny Costa, was actually the player/music director on the Neighborhood since 1967. Here's a long but interesting biography with some neat Mr. Rogers info: http://johnnycosta.comCosta%20Bios_JJI.htm
The Neighborhood theme would make a great C6th instrumental, wouldn't it? Jeff Lampert? Bowman? Someone should knock out a little arrangement in time for the Texas gathering.[This message was edited by Jeff Evans on 01 March 2003 at 12:07 PM.] |
