George Strait concert
I got to go hear George Strait in Pittsburgh Sat. night. What a show. He mixed his classics with someof his new hits and yes, he did Murder on Music Row. He mixed in a couple of western swing tunes also. Mike just tore it up on the steel. He never got up from his seat. George featured him on a Merle Haggard tune that he recorded on one of his former albums and he just tore it up. Just 2 hrs of really great country music. Tammy Cochran opened for him. I didn't care too much for her style. She did have a steel player for a couple of numbers though.

Tim, Jay Henley, a fine vocalist in a band I play with also went to see George Strait, but here in the DC area. He said the steel was lost in the mix, not audible at all except on a rare occasion. Did you have the same experience in Pittsburgh? I guess with the great ethnic diversity we have to enjoy around our nations capital would dictate less twang?

Yeah,
I would have to agree that the steel wasn't exactly put out in front but I was still able to hear it on most numbers. The put some decent shots of Mike up on the screen to when he was taking his rides. During the Haggard tune (I forget the name of it- it was on George's last album I think) after Mike took the break, George said something like "ain't that pretty" Mike tore up some of those swing numbers. I'm not exactly in to a lot of C6th but Mike new how to get it done.
