I was wondering if any of you had some of his old LP's on the Musicor Label that you would be willing to copy. I have almost every CD of Jones that you could name, but I feel like his work on Musicor has been sorely neglected by record labels. In my opinion, some of his best singing was done during this period 1965-70 when a lot of the songs he cut were allowed to "slip through the cracks" if you will. If anyone on the forum could help with this, I would appreciate it very much. Oh, I almost forgot another great thing about the Musicor days, the great Hal Rugg was playing steel!! Thanks again Jason |

Jason: From reading your posts, I can tell how much you appreciate the traditonal music of the past. I think the Musicor era is the best of George Jones on record and his career spans along time. I had several Musicor LP's of his that I loaned out and I've never seen them again. Some friends huh?
One of those LP's was recorded in 1967-68 and was a twin pack, containing songs like
"How Proud I Would Have Been", "Beneath Still Waters" "Small Time Laboring Man" and others. Another LP was a collaboration with Gene Pitney and was absolutely outstanding. Also remember an album of Dallas Frazier songs.
Perhaps someday, this music will be packaged for all of us who appreciate the finest in Country Music. Sonny Curtis was George's steeler then and was featured in most of the songs. He is a Forumite and maybe he can help direct you what you're looking for. Hopefully, Sonny will read this or somebody who knows him has his e-mail address so you can inquire. Happy hunting. |
