On Thanksgiving I found out 1 of my nieces [9 yrs old] is taking flute lessons at her school. She is presently renting a Gimienhart
flute with an option to buy.

My sister and her husband want to buy her a flute and they said the school would sell the 'rental' for $600.

Is a flute in the $300 OK? And is the $600 Gimienhart, like say a $2000 Martin, or a
$6000 MSA Mellenium?

I obviously don't have a clue as to what the
start-up price would be for a quality flute.

Maybe some of you steelers also play or have played flute and could steer me in the right direction.

TIA, ya'll...

My grand-daughter was the "first-chair" flutist in her high-school orchestra. She had one flute for general use and a "millenium" type (expensive)for prestige purposes. It was worth a college music scholarship for her at Nashville's Belmont College. www.genejones.com
