Anybody on the Forum who knows or knows of
an extremely talented singer by the name
of Tim Mensy?
I have only been able to obtain two CD`s with the guy and that required some hard work. I know he has made a third CD named "Stone by Stone" which is absolutely
impossible to come by.
How come this man with a God given voice
has not made more CD`s ?
Any clues?
If Daryl Singletary is so popular, Tim Mensy
should have been Superstar long ago.

Although I don't have any CD's of Tim's I have to agree with you on his talent. In the 80's - 90's he did a song called "That's Love" (I think?) Anyways it was kind of a bluesy type song. I was impressed then with his singing talent and always wondered what became of him. I do know that I have seen his name on several other artist's CD's. He does a lot of song writing apparently. If I happen to come across his CD I will let you know.

Tim's a great songwriter, singer, and just a great guy.

I had the pleasure of meeting him at Tin Pan South this year. I asked if he'd be singing "That Ain't The Granpda That I Know", and he managed to work it into the set for me.

His only real successful song that he recorded (back in the early 90's) was "That's Good".

I've no idea why he didn't "make it". An awesome talent.

and a real good guitar player, too! I hate to say this, and I'm not trying to insult ANYBODY here, but it seems like all Tim has is talent. Playing, singing, AND writing. But as I recall from the video for "That's Good," he ain't the prettiest thing out there. Now, neither is Ray Price, but Ray made it pre-video. Ernest Tubb with a pierced navel?
But Tim's great anyway.

One of my favorites. And, his song about his grandfather has long deserved to be heard by more folks! In the Nashville tradition, a lot of his best stuff has never been cut but, if you get to see him live, you can sure hear some mighty amazing songs.

Agreed. Good news, though. I noticed (on his site) that the song has been cut by Joe Diffie on his latest album. Maybe it'll be a single. One can hope.

Not one of the 'purty boys? Well, I wouldn't know. That reminds me of a song by Tommy Alverson (a local guy out of the Dallas area) called "Where'd All Them 'Purty Boys Come From Anyway?". I'll have to post the lyrics . . . I have his permission to do so.

Tim Mensy is quite possibly, IMHO, one of the most talented artists ever! His song writing is superb, (Mama Knows for Shenandoah or Don't Cross Your Heart for Shelby Lynne) for example. He is an accomplished guitarist and in fact was the guitarist with Capitol recording artists, Bandana. His vocal style, for my taste, is unequalled. A "gumbo" of Bluegrass, Country, and R&B, spiced with great vocal "chops". BTW, His two early albums featured the great Jim Vest on steel and dobro. The "Stone by Stone" project, I think, was his best recorded work so far. Find it if you can.

Unfortunately many people buy for looks and appearances and not for talent.Why not just go buy a pinup of the "pierced navels and good looks" and leave the talent for others.

I could be wrong, I did not hear this from Tim but other industry insiders at the time said; Tim just did not care for the 'artist business' side of things.

My understanding was he did not care for the way business was done on the promotion level to get records played on the radio and etc...

A great songwritter and singer. I feel he could of made it. I guess he felt he had to give up more than he was willing to.

Major labels have a way of turning someting good, like an art form and turning it into something cookie cutter and comericial to sell records. But that's why labels are in business, to sell records.

There are some artists who will stand up to this process and to their credit will say no while keeping their morals, visions and goals clearly in front of them.

Some artist don't 'have' to 'make it' at any cost.

Tim Mensy also wrote a song that my friend Michelle Poe recorded called "When Did You Know" and the song was also recorded by Australian country singer Jamie O'Neal. Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel, GFI Ultra D-10-aka "Redgold Beauty"

Tim is awesome in every since of the word!
