This just in from today's newspaper:

Quote:
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- President Bush called yesterday for legislation requiring employer health plans to treat mental illnes like other ailments, as he launched a two-day Western swing devoted to his "compassionate conservative" agenda and to raising $4.5 million for Republican candidates.
I can see him now, peppering his speeches with 'Ah-haaaaaah!'

Wouldn't it be something if he would campaign like Jimmie Davis did? With a band. But I hate to think what Prince Albert (Al Gore) would counter that with.

The Prez likes country music. Bobby Snell and I did a party gig for him when he was The Guv and he came up to the bandstand and dug the Cornell Hurd Band.

The food, BTW, was awesome. Beef tenderloin that was like chocolate cake!

Just proves the viability of the form, doesn't it? Making money off western swing.

hey! I played mandolin in a bluegrass band at Al Gore's place one time.
He loves country music. Actually he loves all music, from Appalachian to Zappa!

not sure about Tipper, though...

Um... I'm not sure too many people are catching on to what this is really all about... So far, I think Chip Fossa has come the closest, and he's clueless!

Mental illness, compassion, and western swing: What's not to get? They are the encapsulated essence of the Steel Guitar Forum.

Jim,
If he's on a "western swing" I hope this doesn't mean he's moving to the left?

Of course he does. Hell, he invented 3 or 4 genres himself, I'm sure.

Sorry! Blame it on a relapse to my OTB days.

I like anything as long as it's country.

Funny you should mention Al G. liking Zappa... seems it was Frank Zappa himself who went up against Tipper Gore in Congress on the issue of placing warning labels on CDs about the nature of the lyrics...

From an Obit on Zappa:
"Ironically, one of Zappa's instrumental albums was stickered by a retail chain, many of which have strict "18 to buy" regulations on albums with "Tipper stickers."...Zappa ridiculed Gore's assertion that certain types of music could promote deviant behavior saying, "I wrote a song about dental floss but did anyone's teeth get cleaner?"
