I attended a Mark Wills show over the weekend and I was really impressed. I had decided not to go, but my wife really wanted to go and see the show and spend the weekend at an old, beautiful, historic hotel resort. I had made up my mind to not like the show before I got there, because he didn't use a steel, and I rarely care for any performer without a steel, but he won me over and I am a big fan now. His band was top notch and all had great tone, and he has a very great stage presence. He is not faky, and flaky like Barf, but very down to earth and likable. He didn't hound dog, and had a very good voice. I would advise anyone who hasn't seen his show to go to one. I hope he becomes a top star of this century he really deserves it. The only thing he really needs to do in my opinion, would be find a couple of really good ballads nad have John Hughey play on them, and he would make super star status. They would make a perfect match. If any one out there has any pull, try to make this happen. I would love it.

I saw him a few years ago with the George Strait Stadium tour and thought he was one of the best performers there that day. Of course, he did have a steel player at that time.

I agree. I have seen him three times. 2 here in Texas and once in Phoenix. I too enjoy his music as well as his technically proficient road band. However, he had a steel player when I saw him in Phoenix who played a GFI, but both times here in Texas he did not have one. This is too bad as most of his songs have steel in them.

We are opening for him in August with my band. I am already prejudiced by lack of steel guitar. I'll keep an open mind.

When I saw Alan Jackson here near Houston in late 2000, he had a steel player with him.

Mark did have the gumption to record Steve Seskin's "Don't Laugh At Me." It's not a hardcore country song by any means, but it is a really nice plea for the underdog. Anyone with a disabled loved one or who was picked on bad at school would really appreciate this song, I think.
