Willie Nelson and guitarist Jackie King were on Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz last Saturday. Willie sang a few Blues numbers, The Gypsy, Crazy and played Django's Nuages. It was a very interesting show. Hopefully this show will be available on CD in the future.

So, um... was nobody actually playing "piano jazz" on this show? That's very odd for McPartland. |

Actually, Jim; I was going to try and go one step farther. I have a query into PRI for a link to Marion right now. I am going to propose to her that she give either Buddy Emmons or Doug Jernigan a chance to show her some steel guitar jazz. I don't think she has gone there before because no man has dared to.....
Further, I'm going to propose that she also explore the western swing era and the steel guitar influence there as well.
If these float, my next item will be beautiful music as played by all Acceptable Tone Masters such as Lloyd, Hal, Weldon, Bobbe, and what was that guy's name in Philly that even Bobbe says has
TONE TO LOAN !!
The idea came from Mark T in the Sustaining 7ths thread here in the Music Forum.

Jim: It is so much fun having a good time with nice folks on the Forum. Why I even gave you a By-Line over in Humor about that Test Post you made in Tab. I was going to post it there but I would have surely been Off-Topic and then it went Bye-Bye.

I received a reply from PRI and the correct e-mail for Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz. I
have sent her a suggestion as above and we'll wait and see what happens......

Jimbeaux! Jimbeaux! Jimbeaux!, You know very well that Marian accompanies all the guests on "PIANO JAZZ" on her Baldwin Piano. You also know the union rules, "No Play, No Pay." Besides The Widow McPartland must supplement her Social Security by doing this 1 hour gig each Saturday.

Paul, you might want to follow up by emailing him/her an mp3/sample so they don't have to do the legwork. Make it easy for them. [This message was edited by Jim Cohen on 20 February 2002 at 01:26 PM.] |

Jim: That would be the thing to do but to be frank with you, I can't !! It was only by the sheerest of luck that I manipulated this thing into getting through to you last night. Up in the Dutch country, they have an expression: Husht Canary, ober chingst net !! Has a canary but it doesn't sing.
I have a computer but it doesn't sing either.
Luckily, after suceeding with Winamp last night, I was able to finally play two songs Roy Thomson had sent me a while back and I'll tell you; they are really nice. If this pans out, I will have to find someone who can do this (You ??) for me because it would be a logical next step as you said.
I tried this once before with a jazz show on Georgia Public Radio and a host by name of Roger Danz, now deceased. It was the year Curly Chalker died. I asked him if he felt about steel guitars like I felt about accordians and he told me that a few years earlier, he had been invited to a Bill Anderson Tribute. He being from the same town and county. He said he listened for a long time while Bill's steel man (Sonny Garish ??) Tuned up and played some of "The most amazing and far out jazz he had ever heard in his life !!"
I referred him to Scotty's Music and/or Tom Bradshaw for work by Curly but I don't know if that went through or not.
Maybe this time it will be Finally Here for all of us to listen to. I surely hope so.
