Here's an interesting article that gives us a look at the MTV (and, dare I say, country?) music business at its primal level.

I don't understand how that article relates to your comment. Anyways, i can't name one Limp Biskit tune. From what i understand they are foul-mouthed rappers? If that's the case then i guess you get what you pay for.

Erik, they are a chart band.. so they're quite popular. (I prefer Kid Rock personally)

Now I wonder why the original guitarist left, and more interesting... there's a local radio station here in Melbourne that's been running a rock dude competition to fly a guitar slinger to L.A. to try out for the band. Could be an interesting outcome!

I think the writer should count his blessings. He might have missed his one and only chance to die of a drug overdose. Anybody who falls for this kind of bullcrap deserves to be screwed. I mean HELLO....STUPID?" How anyone can be this gullible and greedy at the same time is totally beyond me, but I guess there's quite a few players out there who will do almost anything to get the money, sex appeal, and good dope that rock musicians are known for. The music business now isn't what it's cracked up to be, and come to think of it...

It never was.

Guitar Center needs to file a "breach of contract" lawsuit.

Anybody got connections with 60 Minutes or 20/20? That'd sure make an interesting story.

How about a reply by Limp Bizkit? (warning: vulgarity)

>>>I don't understand how that article relates to your comment<<<

My comment was just a slight jab at the music BUSINESS ("music" should be written in the smallest letters possible) in general. I'm glad there are high profile pop (and country) groups, whether or not I like their particular brand of music.

By focusing 99.9% of the media's (and the public's) attention on them, those of us who choose the musical "road not taken" are left with a much less crowded thoroughfare. You folks who play original music know what I mean. The road's rough enough (it's a dirt road, full of washboards), without having to navigate it along with a bunch of pop wannabe's. I'm glad they have a place to be, and I sincerely wish them the best.

The article (and Limp Bizkit's reply) simply point out that the music, itself, has little or nothing to do with it all. I mean, honestly... put yourself in their place. You want a new guitar player. Do you really think you're gonna find the best player for your band by allowing him 60 seconds (or less...)of playing time? By not talking to him at all beforehand? (I say "him", because I truly doubt these guy's would allow a woman in their band...I might be wrong). Can you imagine a Willie Nelson, or a Johnny Cash, or an Emmylou Harris, et al, auditioning a player that way? I can't. Whether or not these guys are ripping the auditioners off is beside the point. The real point is the complete lack of concern for music at all.
