I just saw this today on the Jimmy/Johnny Wakely website, sad news.

Date: 12/22/01

Dear Visitors, I am very saddened to announce that my father, Jimm Wakely's son, Johnny Wakely, passed away this morning. I plan to save this website for memories' sake as I don't know what will become of it now. I trust that all who have seen this site have enjoyed it, and my heartfelt thanks would go out to you from my dad were he still with us.
Thanks for the memories, dad...

Bob Wakely

Jason, thank you for the notification. I have enjoyed many visits to the Jimmy Wakely website since you gave me the URL sometime ago. I hope the family will be motivated and able to keep the site running not only in memory of Jimmy, but also in memory of Johnny who has invested so much of himself into this project.....Gene Jones

A sad passing of someone who cared about his family's vocations etc.
Jimmy and Johnny were vital elemnts to western music.

Yes it's sad news, the website is a wonderful tribute and hopefully the family will be able to keep it running as a tribute to father and son.

For those who haven't visited the site, now is a good time, Johnny has various recollections of working with his dad's band, including the late great Noel Boggs.
A hard time fo anyone to lose a family member, I swapped some emails with Johnny and he was a lovely person.

What's missing is Jimmy's date of death.

My Jimmy Wakely tidbit is when I was 20 I discovered that the version of Silver Bells
that I broke a 78 of was Whiting/Wakely. I found a reissue 45 and recognized the flip side.
I also heard their version of Slippin Around before Floyd Tillmans

Bad news that for sure, I exchanged a few letters with Jimmy Wakely in the 70's and in the last couple years some emails with Johnny. Both seemed to be very nice people.
Jimmy even with his first trio in the late 1930's had Noel Boggs on the steel. Jimmy always had the best musicians in his many different musical groups. Jimmy Wakely put on some great radio shows. Johnny and his sister LindaLee did a lot of performing and recording with their father. There is a Shasta CD available now of Noel Boggs. Jimmy featured a lot of friends, the talented ones,
and knew many. Jack Rivers, Neil Lavang,Pete
Martinenz. Well, we still have the music and the memories. Al
